Addiction Treatment Methods

If you or your loved one is suffering from addiction, you may be wondering which addiction treatment methods may work. Addiction is a widespread problem that affects people of all ages, from all walks of life. It does not matter what your income level or education level is. There are addicts who are homeless on the streets, and addicts who are lawyers and doctors.

It goes without saying that addiction is a destructive force that ruins the lives of individuals and families. There is good news though: Addiction is a treatable disease.

How Can I Overcome Addiction?

This is a common question asked both by addicts themselves and by those who love them. It is important to know that while recovery can be difficult, it is possible.

One of the biggest mistakes is believing that they should be able to stop using with no help. Families frequently try to curb their loved one’s using by trying to control their behavior or issuing threats or ultimatums. Many addicts try repeatedly to just “stop” on their own, believing that desire and willpower should do the trick. After numerous failures they begin to give up hope and resign themselves to a life of using.

If you, or a loved one has been struggling with addiction, there are ways to get help.

Different Types Of Addiction Treatment Methods

The two major types are outpatient and inpatient. Outpatient treatment is often geared toward those who are reluctant to enter inpatient treatment due to work or family obligations. This type of treatment includes one-on-one and group counseling, classes and in some cases, medication.

Some people experience success with outpatient treatment, particularly when used in conjunction with solid support from other recovering addicts. For many people though, success is best achieved through the help of inpatient drug rehabilitation.

While this method of treatment may seem intimidating to some, it is often the starting point for long-term healing from addiction. Why does it work? First, it removes you from the situation. It can be hard to stay away from the people, places and things that you associate with drug or alcohol use. A drug rehab center is a safe place where you can begin learning how to live without drugs.

The other important factor is support. Between the counselors, staff, and other clients you are constantly surrounded by people who have been where you are, are going through what you are going through and have the tools to help you overcome addiction.

Which Addiction Treatment Methods Are Right For Me?

In the short term, outpatient treatment may seem like a good option, but inpatient delivers a higher success rate (at least based on data at our centre). If you have tried unsuccessfully in the past to recover, you may find that entering a drug rehab centre is your best bet. Sometimes, the two are combined. For example, you may complete a 28 day inpatient program and then follow that up with several months of outpatient treatment.

Addiction treatment methods can vary from rehab to rehab, but for the most part, they work to treat some of the root causes of addiction and give you the ability to learn how to cope with those causes and learn to live your life free of addiction.
