Our Story and Mission

The Canadian Centre For Addictions began with a dedicated promise to help give back the gift of Recovery to those who wanted more from their lives than the path of addiction could provide. Beginning operation in a small house in Port Perry, Ontario in 2011, CCFA’s program continued to evolve and grow and quickly became one of Ontario’s most effective private addiction rehab and treatment centre. As demand continued to grow, CCFA began operation at the larger Hillcrest Mansion in Port Hope, Ontario. CCFA now operates two world class facilities in both the Hillcrest Mansion in Port Hope and the Woodlawn Inn in Cobourg, Ontario

All CCFA locations offer treatment modalities that help cultivate and nurture healthier coping mechanisms and strategies to the underlying issues that led to the addiction in the first place. Lifetime Aftercare and Lifetime Family Support for all who complete their program at CCFA. We believe 5-star care helps our residents learn how to lead 5-star quality lives, year after year.

Our goal will always be simple: to keep our word to our residents and help them through every stage of alcohol and drug addiction treatment. Our focus on quality care helps us deliver a clear message to anyone wanting to overcome addiction in a caring, supportive environment.

Everything we do and everything we are is a reflection of the profound experience we want for those in our care. Whether it’s facilitating medically supervised detox, mental health supports, one on one counselling, group therapies or healthy mindfulness and stress management, CCFA has a client-centred program specific to help connect everyone to authentic recovery.

What Addictions Do We Treat?

At CCFA, we treat the following addictions at our rehabilitation centres in Toronto and Ontario.

  1. Alcohol addiction
  2. Cocaine addiction
  3. Prescription drug addiction
  4. Opioid Addiction
  5. Marijuana addiction
  6. Methadone
  7. Crystal Meth
  8. Heroin addiction
  9. Crack addiction

Alcohol addiction can affect vital organs like the liver, kidneys, lungs, and heart. It can also impair judgment and put a person and others around them at risk of life-threatening accidents. At CCFA, we offer medically monitored detox, support and guidance through the alcohol addiction recovery process. Our team of highly qualified alcohol rehab specialists will evaluate your case and devise the most appropriate treatment plan that sets you on the path to living an alcohol-free life.

Cocaine is a highly potent and addictive drug with several long-term implications. Adverse effects of cocaine addiction include strokes, seizures, infertility, brain damage, hemorrhage, and overdose-related deaths.

At CCFA, we offer you the comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehab program you need to recover safely, including medically monitored detox and withdrawal management services. Our addiction rehab staff will monitor your recovery while our counselors work with you to identify underlying issues and develop better habits. Our cocaine rehab strategies are tailored to meet your needs and those of your loved ones to give you the best chance of breaking your cocaine addiction.

Addiction to prescription medications such as opioids, depressants, stimulants, or tranquilizers can have severe long-term implications. Adverse effects of prescription drug addiction include respiratory depression, brain damage, and death from overdose.

At CCFA, we offer proven rehab treatments and medically monitored detox and withdrawal management services that have helped many people battling prescription drug addiction. Our treatments are tailored to your unique circumstances, accounting for the specific drug you’re addicted to and the underlying causes of your addiction. We have a full team of addiction counselors with years of experience and success treating individuals who come for help.

Marijuana is a popular drug and abuse, and individuals who become addicted to the drug may exhibit symptoms such as impaired judgment, poor motor control, increased blood pressure, and lowered inhibitions.

At the CCFA rehab centres, we have marijuana addiction treatment strategies designed to help you get to the root of your addiction and teach you the skills you need to live without marijuana.

Heroin is a highly addictive substance with usually severe withdrawal symptoms. Addiction to heroin is tough to break, and addicts may experience respiratory problems, sexual dysfunction, heart infections, kidney or liver issues, insomnia, and overdose-related coma or death.

Overcoming heroin addiction is tough, and CCFA offers various services, including detox, rehab, and behavioral therapy, to give you the best chance at recovery. We also provide inpatient and outpatient services with the right combination of medical and psychological support. Our specialists will also help you through withdrawal and everything that comes after, from managing your cravings to rebuilding old relationships.

Crack is a cheaper and faster-acting cocaine derivative. The effects of crack addiction are similar to those of cocaine addiction though they may be more intense. CCFA offers crack addiction treatment tailored to the needs of the addict. Our comprehensive residential and outpatient services come with the best medical and psychological support to give you the best chance at recovery. We also have counselors who will work with you to determine the root of your addiction and help you devise strategies for dealing with underlying issues and developing healthier coping mechanisms.

What to Expect When Coming In For Drug Rehab

  • Medical Assessment
  • Medical Intake and Program Admission
  • Withdrawal Management /Detox/ Medical Support
  • Registered Psychologist Assessment, Addiction Program Therapies
  • Aftercare and Ongoing Case Management
Medical Assessment

When you come for addiction help at CCFA, our staff will first conduct a screening assessment that covers your specific situation (mental health, substance of choice, medical concerns, and medications). This assessment aims to obtain information that ensures that the treatment you need is within the scope of our addiction services and that we provide treatment that is consistent with your immediate needs.

Medical Intake and Program Admission

Most clients come to our addiction clinics with their loved ones or CCFA staff. We put the clients and their loved ones at ease by answering their questions and providing information on what to expect during their stay. To maintain a safe, secure, and controlled environment, we search clients’ belongings to ensure no contraband or illicit drugs enter our addiction recovery center. We will also assess your specific needs at this point to help us tailor your treatment more efficiently.

Withdrawal Management /Detox/ Medical Support

We ensure round-the-clock monitoring for all our clients through their treatment programs. A physician will also meet with the client virtually to ensure their medical and withdrawal management needs are met. Our nursing staff perform urine and blood analysis to determine which substances are in their system to enable us to provide individualized client-centered care. All our clients also receive an industry-standard depression and anxiety inventory near the end of their treatment to provide evidence-based data on their recovery and progress.

Registered Psychologist Assessment, Addiction Program Therapies

Our addiction treatments feature a program portion for clients when they are physically able. This program identifies and provides insight into tackling the psychological root of each client’s addiction. Clients undergo one-on-one sessions with a counsellor based on their specific needs. We also incorporate other therapies like nutrition, mindfulness, yoga, and clinical workshops into our treatment programs to facilitate a holistic recovery process.

Aftercare and Ongoing Case Management

Every graduate of CCFA’s program has automatic lifetime access to our weekly aftercare groups. This is an opportunity to stay connected with CCFA and keep recovery in focus. We offer aftercare and ongoing case management as part of each client’s relapse prevention plan. All clients that graduate from any of our drug rehab programs will be connected to local resources and services – psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and certified addiction counsellors – to provide continuous support after completing their inpatient program. Our aftercare programs help clients manage their triggers and underlying issues that can cause a relapse. Clients who complete programs longer than 45 days qualify for CCFA’s guarantee – a free 14-day relapse prevention program that helps them reevaluate their recovery goals or strategies.

What are the physical signs of abuse or addiction?

The physical signs of abuse or addiction can vary depending on the person and the drug being abused. For example, someone who abuses marijuana may have a chronic cough or worsening of asthmatic symptoms. Each drug has short-term and long-term physical effects. Stimulants like cocaine increase heart rate and blood pressure, whereas opioids like heroin may slow the heart rate and reduce respiration.

What is drug addiction?

Drug addiction is a complex, and often chronic, brain disease. It is characterized by drug craving, seeking, and use that can persist even in the face of devastating life consequences. Addiction results largely from brain changes that stem from prolonged drug use—changes that involve multiple brain circuits, including those responsible for governing self-control and other behaviors. Drug addiction is treatable, often with medications (for some addictions) combined with behavioral therapies. However, relapse is common and can happen even after long periods of abstinence, underscoring the need for long-term support and care. Relapse does not signify treatment failure, but rather should prompt treatment re-engagement or modification.

How do I know if someone is addicted to drugs?

If a person is compulsively seeking and using a drug(s) despite negative consequences, such as loss of job, debt, family problems, or physical problems brought on by drug abuse, then he or she probably is addicted. And while people who are addicted may believe they can stop any time, most often they cannot, and will need professional help—first to determine if they in fact are addicted, and then to obtain drug abuse treatment. Support from friends and family can be critical in getting people into treatment and helping them to maintain abstinence following treatment.

Can you force someone into rehab if they are resistant?

When it comes to resistance to receiving help there ARE options to families and loved ones that dramatically increase the likelihood of an addicted loved one entering an effective treatment program.
